The Mats Files (i.e., everything else)
The Skyway, the Replacements mailing list
In
1992, I had just seen the Replacements and was going to university in a
small Midwestern college town. The band had just broken up but I was
looking for people who could tell me what it was like to see them in
1986 with Bob Stinson, what it was like when Let It Be
came out, what was it like to hear "Hold My Life" live? I was looking
for everything: the solo albums, the people, the stories, the concerts,
the music, the rumors, the dreams, the wishes, the lies. As crazy as
this sounds, somehow it's worked for over two decades. It's apparently
been a much needed cartharsis/support group for 'Mats fans. In a sentence, here's the philosophy behind the creation of this
list: I love the Replacements. I wanted to talk to other people who
did too, and I wasn't the only one.
In
the early days of the internet before it had pictures, there were only
digests - and the Skyway still comes together primarily through a
digest. It may not be instantaneous, but it's easier to sort through
years from now when people were wondering what happened when the
reunion tour was announced. Feel free to send in anything: interviews, comments, life stories,
concert and album reviews (from you personally or out of magazines,
old newspapers, etc.), conjecture, lyrics or lyric requests,
information on recorded (video or auto) tapes of concerts, personal
experiences...anything!
You can subscribe at http://tinyletter.com/theskyway.
When people first subscribe, they usually drop a line to say hi and tell how you first came across the
Replacements, your favorite song, how this line or that changed your
life. Feel free to get verbose! So write in today...tell us
anything: how you got into the Replacements and what you like about
them. Tell us your favorite songs. Tell us your favorite album. Ask
that question about the band that you always wanted to but nobody knew
the answer. Tell us what you were doing when you got into The 'Mats.
Tell us who you are and what other bands you like. We want to know who
you are. We really try and make this list something more than a bunch
of concert and album reviews.
Come on, we're waiting to hear from you!
